Job Summary

This position is responsible for leading a small department including personally handling bookkeeping, financial reporting, tax, and payroll. Prepares monthly financial statements, board reports, the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes & reports, ensuring that all necessary transactions are posted in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Preparing journal entries
  • Posting month-end accruals
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable
  • Performing general ledger account reconciliations, sub-ledger balancing
  • Full-charge payroll with Quickbooks
  • Payroll periodic reports & functions, 940, 941, quarterly and annual 1099s & W-2s
  • Prepares and submits quarterly NCUA 5300 call report
  • Prepares Asset & Liability Committee Package
  • Prepares monthly board packet with input from others
  • Collaborates on annual budget including forecasting and modeling
  • Manages Prepaids/accruals
  • Manages Allowances including Allowance for Loan Loss
  • Collaborates with leaders and operations to set/adjust policies & procedures
  • Oversees cash flow and liquidity
  • Posts dividends as approved
  • Manages tax reporting including 990, property tax, real estate tax
  • Manages bond investments


REQUIRED Qualifications & Skills

  • Leadership of relevant functions
  • Strong applied knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, and 10-key calculator by touch
  • Ensures the timely and accurate reporting of all financial information
  • Very organized individual with the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to meet required deadlines under occasional stressful conditions
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally
  • Highly motivated individual that is eager to learn and take on new challenges
  • Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision - Takes direction well
  • Follow Credit Union policies for compliance with all laws and regulations and shows discretion with confidential information
  • Work cooperatively in a team environment with other staff members
  • Skilled with common accounting tools including 10-key by touch, keyboarding, Microsoft Excel

STRONGLY PREFERRED Qualifications & Skills

  • Credit Union or Bank Accounting experience
  • Undergraduate (4-year) degree in accounting
  • Prior experience with end-to-end payroll processing using QuickBooks
  • Experience with ALLL & understanding of CECL
  • Investments management

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision for computer work and the ability to adjust focus from computer to member interface.

The work environment is a financial services office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While safety precautions are in place, due to the nature of the financial services industry, robbery is a possibility.
