JOB DESCRIPTIONChubb's Natural Resources Practice is an exciting and dynamic place for individuals who are seeking career opportunities and advancement. The Commercial Insurance team has an opening for an experienced Natural Resources Underwriter to join our Natural Resources Industry Practice. This is a high-impact role that is focused on growing a Property and Casualty book comprised of our Package, Automobile, Workers' Compensation, Umbrella and International products. Multi-line experience is encouraged. The underwriter for this position will sit in Chicago, IL reporting to our Natural Resources Energy Core Leader. The candidate will be responsible for handling both a renewal book and writing new business across the four Regions our team services, including the Midwest, Pacific North, Pacific South & New York Regions.
The Underwriter with Chubb's Energy department will manage approximately a $9M - $10M book of business across one or more Regions noted above. The Underwriter must develop book growth, maintain superior internal and external relationships and implement effective and profitable pricing strategies.
This individual will also have accountability for the financial performance of this book of business, achieving growth for the branch. We are seeking someone who will identify opportunities for growth within new and existing production sources, identify cross sell opportunities, conduct agency planning/goal setting and make regular broker and insured visits based on monthly goals.

• Strong sales and marketing skills along with the ability to position accounts and close deals.
• Demonstrated success in marketing, producer/book management and new business development.
• Ability to successfully negotiate on all levels with both internal and external partners and nurture key producer relations.
• High proficiency with the underwriting process and risk analysis.
• Effective desk management.
• Exemplary ability to effectively interact with customers and coworkers at all levels.
• Knowledge and proficiency with underwriting technical issues, compliance, coverage, products, pricing & strategies.
• Results orientation, entrepreneurial spirit, business acumen, self-motivation and strong ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Responsible for the professional development, retention, and performance assessment of team members.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of three (3) years of property and casualty underwriting experience.
- Completion of University/College degree and/or equivalent work experience.
- Experience underwriting in any of the following areas is an asset: Power, Mining, Petroleum, Complex Property, Builders' Risk, Complex Casualty.
- Proven ability to independently and successfully problem solve.
- Strong ability to be innovative and creative in order to develop new business opportunities.
- Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to follow-up independently.
- Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities with flexibility and adaptability.
- High level of responsiveness and efficiency when working with stakeholders.
- Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills, proven through established broker relationships.
- Superior marketing ability, combined with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
- Ability to respond as a team player, in a multi-task environment.
- Comfortable working in a deadline-oriented atmosphere.
The pay range for the role is $85,000 to $130,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program. Chubb offers a comprehensive benefits package, more details on which can be found on our careers website.
