Job Summary
Morrissey and Associates is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to lead complex tax engagements, manage staff, and serve as a primary advisor to individual and business clients. This role combines hands-on preparation and review of tax returns with active client relationship management, staff development, and strategic tax planning.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of recent tax experience in a public accounting firm or tax-focused practice.
- Active CPA license and/or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential required.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required. Master's degree in accounting or taxation is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency with Drake Tax Software, QuickBooks (Desktop and Online), and Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing returns and supervising, training, or mentoring staff.
- Strong technical tax skills in individual, pass-through, and corporate taxation, including multi-state issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex issues to non-technical clients.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a seasonal environment.
- Familiarity with NJ sales and payroll tax is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary ranging from $120,000 to $150,000, based on experience.

Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, estates, and trusts, including multi-state filings (with emphasis on NY/NJ).
- Lead engagement planning, including scoping, budgeting, and scheduling for recurring and special tax projects.
- Review returns prepared by junior staff, provide clear review notes, and ensure accurate, timely filings that align with firm quality standards.
- Conduct tax research, document conclusions, and communicate implications and recommendations to clients and team members in plain language.
- Meet with clients throughout the year to discuss tax planning, life and business changes, entity structures, and cash-flow/tax implications.
- Support clients with business needs such as QuickBooks cleanup, accounting processes, tax credits, and business planning.
- Prepare and review financial statements used in client advisory and planning engagements.
- Proactively monitor tax law changes (federal and state) and recommend planning ideas for assigned client relationships.
- Manage and mentor support staff: assign work, provide feedback, participate in performance discussions, and help build training materials.
- Use the firm’s technology stack (Drake, QuickBooks Desktop/Online, practice management and workflow tools, and Microsoft 365) to manage work, document notes, and track deadlines.
- Ensure practice management systems are properly used for tracking workflows, due dates, and client communications.
- Communicate effectively with clients, tax authorities, and other advisors (attorneys, financial planners, etc.) both verbally and in writing.
