A global Fortune 500 reinsurance leader is seeking a Compliance Associate Director to support regulatory compliance for its Japan branch. This role works closely with the Head of Compliance to ensure adherence to Japanese insurance regulations and acts as a key delegate on assigned compliance topics. You will play a proactive role in strengthening governance, driving process improvements, and supporting a highly international compliance framework.
Key Responsibilities
Represent Compliance as a delegate of the Head of Compliance on assigned regulatory and governance topics.
Propose and support the Japan compliance plan for endorsement by senior leadership.
Review rules, procedures, and workflow best practices to ensure effective compliance operations.
Conduct walkthroughs and substantive testing of departmental workflows and internal controls.
Monitor new regulations and recommend solutions in coordination with the Head of Compliance.
Drive closure of internal audit findings by coordinating remediation actions with stakeholders.
Deliver process improvements through stakeholder engagement and structured monitoring reports.
Support identification of operational risks that could expose the branch to sanctions, complaints, or litigation.
Coordinate reviews of compliance policies, manuals, and rules with local, regional, and global teams.
Required Skills and Qualifications Experience:
3+ years in a lead compliance or risk-related role within Financial Services, ideally in insurance or regulatory environments.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification required.
Strong ability to interpret governing laws and translate regulations into practical internal controls.
Solid understanding of contract law and its implications for legal documentation.
Experience coordinating audit remediation and compliance monitoring processes is highly valued.
Soft Skills:
Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate compliance issues before they become control gaps.
Strong stakeholder management skills to secure buy-in for remediation and process improvements.
Detail-oriented approach with consistent tracking of regulatory obligations.
Collaborative and confident communicator across departments and regional/global teams.
Language Requirements:
Japanese: Native level required for documentation and stakeholder engagement.
English: Fluent or business-level proficiency preferred for regional and global collaboration.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of complex accounting and actuarial practices and standards.
Experience working in multinational compliance environments.
