Company History
Our Past …
Over 30 years ago, Angelo Mozilo and David Loeb founded a company with a name that embodied their lofty goals and illustrated their aggressive vision - Countrywide.
From its earliest beginnings, technology and innovative thinking have characterized Countrywide's rise to the top of the residential lending industry.
A few of Countrywide's historical highlights include:
Developing the first PC-based loan servicing system dramatically reduced the cost of servicing a loan.
Leading the way towards computerization with the use of PCs to originate home loans in 1984.
Consolidating our presence as a powerhouse in the mortgage industry during the 1990s and diversifying into other financial services, adding to our already successful roster of business units.

Our Present …
We're using the strength, knowledge and acumen of our combined businesses to serve every aspect of the mortgage banking market. The goal has been to respond to the challenges associated with our rapid growth and to create opportunities to increase our earnings regardless of the interest rate environment.
Today, Countrywide is in a much stronger position as a result of solid planning and strong levels of management support at the implementation level. We have undertaken several successful measures - some that are new and some that have long been part of our strategy. These actions have fostered our position of strength, including:
Creating a variable mortgage-banking cost structure
Growing purchase market share even at the height of the "refi" boom
Continuing efforts to build a larger servicing portfolio
Diversifying into new areas of business, such as additional insurance products, capital markets, banking, and global expansion
